Connection, What makes a Lifestyle Session Beautiful
When I am old and grey I want to be surrounded by one thing, photographs. I want these photographs to remind me of the love & connection shared. In some way, these photographs provide will a journal holding a collection of heartfelt moments pumping my old beating heart with joy. I always do a presession questionnaire or conversation with my clients, beginning a dialogue in which I can understand what is important to them. Exploring a little about your vision and goals for the session and what you want these images to convey to your children provides a starting place for creating the unique imagery that may be captured during the session.
Here are 5 things a photographer thinks about when photographing a family.
The Emotion. I think a lot about the emotion that parents bring to the table…what do we want to feel from a photograph? Truthfully, having the foresight to realize that these photographs will be viewed in the future as a capture of the hearts best love.
The Personality. Every child is unique. Exploring a little about what a kid is like before and during, give me a point for connection to their soul. It takes patience to allow them to open up, and once they do the opportunity for capture will be there.
The Bond. There is something about being in the arms of a loved one that lends toward contentment and real happiness. Hold hands, hug, play, connecting physically sends a recall to the heart, renewing the loving bond shared.
The Trust. It takes a little awareness to help clients open up to you, a doorway that allows children to show you their true selves. I like clients to view a photography session as a safe zone, to just exist and be in the moment away from the distractions of the everyday and opportunity to open up. It is somewhere in this space that a child will let you capture the snapshot of their inner beauty.
The Free Spiritedness. Permission to let go, opening up to the light and the life in front of me…letting play, fun, and affection happen an organic and timeless way.
“Each day as I watch my children play and interact I find myself thinking (as I’m sure many parents do) that I wish I could freeze time and keep them just like this but since that unfortunately is not an option I want to do all I can to remember who they are. Amy was able to capture exactly who they are, not a posed or edited version she captured my exact children as they are at this age. She did a wonderful job of making them feel comfortable and free enough to just be themselves and play around her, they enjoyed showing her things they could do or just going off and playing without the slightest clue she was there. We all were able to interact as a family and just share those moments the ones you have at home the raw beautiful snuggly and silly ones. When I first saw the photos it was not long after they were taken and it already evoked such strong emotions for me. They are truly a moment in time that shows my children’s personality and aspects for us to always remember. I know that I cannot freeze time and my children will grow and flourish but I also know that Amy will be able to freeze moments and create moving memory’s for us” -Aly
